What is Family Mediation?

Mediation provides people with the opportunity to resolve issues arising from the breakdown of a relationship.

It is a voluntary and confidential process which gives the parties a chance to explain their issues, hopes, concerns and needs to each other in the presence of an experienced and qualified family mediator.

Family mediation provides a safe environment, helping to reduce hostility and improve the chances of long term positive communication.

Government to Fund Mandatory Mediation

As of March 2023 the Government is to fund Mandatory Mediation for separating couples

A huge change in family justice will see mediation become mandatory for all low level family court cases (excluding those with a history of domestic violence)This could potentially help thousands of separating families resolve their problems away from court,

The aim is to lessen the impact of adverse court proceedings on the mental health of children.

To further support the move, the government will extend the Family Mediation Voucher Scheme until March 2025. The voucher scheme provides vouchers worth up to £500 in helping to resolve disputes through the mediation process.
