Changes in Family Mediation from April 2024
From 29th April 2024 onwards, it will become difficult to avoid the MIAM process in addition to the cost
The purpose is to allow those involved to explore alternative dispute resolution without their agreement, and the changes to the costs particularly failure to attend a MIAM.
Government to Fund Mandatory Mediation
As of March 2023 the Government is to fund Mandatory Mediation for separating couples
A huge change in family justice will see mediation become mandatory for all low level family court cases (excluding those with a history of domestic violence)This could potentially help thousands of separating families resolve their problems away from court,
The aim is to lessen the impact of adverse court proceedings on the mental health of children.
To further support the move, the government will extend the Family Mediation Voucher Scheme until March 2025. The voucher scheme provides vouchers worth up to £500 in helping to resolve disputes through the mediation process.
